If you’re looking for books on Ancient Greece in the library, most of them will be in the History section, at Dewey Decimal (Call) number 938. This is the number where you find books specifically about Ancient Greece.
If you’re looking for books on more specific subjects you’ll find them in the section with other books on the same topic. For example you’ll find books on Greek Myths in the Mythology section, at call number 398.2 or the Classical Religion section, 292.
Remember when using a book, to check the Contents page at the front to find your topic. If it’s not there, check the Index at the back. Many non-fiction books also have a Glossary next to the index that explains specialised (and in this case, Greek) words that you may not be familiar with.

Discovering the World of Ancient Greeks by Zofia Archibald

If you want more of a challenge, this book is for you! This book explains the history of Ancient Greece based on archaeological discoveries in Greece and what these tell us about how people lived, the major sites in the Greek world and key events. It has a map, a timeline and glossary. It has lots of illustrations that will be useful if you’re making a temple or drawing a model of a house, as well as designing a pot.

Discoveries: Ancient Greece by Judith Simpson
Call number: NON 938 SIM
This book is easy to read with a lot of illustrations that explain life in Ancient Greece. It’s particularly useful if you’re researching daily life including schooling, pottery, houses and temples. It’s a good place to start your research and also has a glossary.

Ancient Greece by Pamela Bradley
Call number: NON 938 BRA
If you are researching Athens and Sparta, this book is very useful. It includes tables that explain the main differences between these two cities as well as information on daily life for men and women, including education (some of this will be relevant to daily life across all of Ancient Greece). It also covers architecture, Socrates and Pericles.

Greek Myths & Legends by Cheryl Evans and Anne Millard
Call number: NON 292 EVA
This book is more specialised than the others, but its great if you’re doing the table of Ancient Greek Gods/Goddesses. It starts with some background to the myths and their role in Ancient Greece. There’s a double page on many of the god/goddesses that explains who they are and what myths they are connected with. At the end of the book there’s a Who’s Who that lists everyone in Greek myths and any name that appears in bold throughout the book has an entry.
